On our first tour with my new band, we travelled North to play two gigs over a weekend. The very short and very sweet mini tour was a testament of the place of music in a community. The first concert was packed out, standing room only. The second concert (at a different venue) had less people, but they all hung around in the garden around us, soaking up the sun and the music. People came to these gigs because it’s damn exciting for entertainment to come to town. Fortunately, we also proved to be entertaining enough. It was our first official gigs, but in performing I didn’t feel amateur, or that the audience was keeping in mind that this was our inaugural performances as a band. They were out in force as communities. They applauded us, heckled and laughed at our mistakes and our jokes, and that was a very good thing. It's showtime

I'm baaaack. This site got hacked, and lots of my other sites as well. Projects for me right now: Working on some proposals for a new exhibition of little people based on all my character doodles over the years. Will hopefully exhibit up in the Hokianga and in Welly, with Josca being my partner in crime. The Longdrops are back after a long hiatus and we hope to start gigging in September, with the lovely Tavish now on bass. I better practise my blues uke before then.

OOHHH 2009 is not the year of health. Got a severe migraine yesterday, went off to hospital. Mostly better now, just funny in the head. Anti nausea pills made me totally restless, fidgety. SO kidney infections and migraines have been dominating...

Having a bit of a 'dark night of the soul' in terms of folk music right now. Am feeling passion-less and uninspired. Would like to be in the thick of music and lovely people speaking foreign tongues and having breakfast with them too, with all the politicking taken out. Sigh.

Well -skipped on the Keruoac effect and went instead to Zig Zag, Len Lye inspired music. magic! Then the Arrival on Saturday and French Markets and the beach on Sunday. Weekends are best.
